Hello Everyone,
I've got a young English Setter (going on two years old) who is doing well hunting and holds his point. However, he chases birds when they flush. After thinking this over quite a bit, I really want to fix this behavior. I believe I've missed quite a few birds this past fall from this. After thinking this over quite a bit, I really want to fix this behavior. I believe I've missed quite a few birds this past fall from this. I was hoping that somebody with experience and a bit of land and birds (or I can buy some birds) could help me or atleast let me use their property to train my dog. I think he could really benefit from some more controlled exposure to birds. I'd be willing to pay, we could negotiate a price. I wouldn't expect this for free. If anyone could offer me a lead or could help me out, I would truly appreciate it. I really want my dog steady to shot. Setter puppy on the Barrens!
Hello all,

I had my first day on the barrens with my little Setter, and what a blast! Does anyone have any tips or hints on how to get him into birds? I was at Butterpot Hills Area off Witless Bay Line, are there any better spots around? And does anyone know when the snipe come back? I'd love to get him into a few, anything at this stage in the game is good for him, I'm sure! Also, I'm getting him neutered next week, whats everyone's opinions and experiences on neutering a hunting…

Hello all, I just got an English Setter puppy. He is 8 weeks old and is quite the character, as can be imagined. I've never had a hunting dog before and am not entirely sure where to start. I know the typical puppy stuff like getting him house trained but where should I start with him? When should he be introduced to bird's and what should I be teaching him? Thanks a lot for any input!

Hello everyone, I'm new here. I've got a dog who is about a year and a half old. He's 30 pounds, about a foot and a half tall and loves being in the woods. I'd love to try to train him to hunt but I'm not quite sure where to start. He's not gun shy, and he also loves being close to me when in the woods and comes when whistled to. I'm just wondering if anyone has had any luck hunting with mutts and how they went bout training them. I feel as if I put some effort into it I could atleast get him…

Hello

I'm hoping to get a puppy before Christmas. Hoping for a good all around dog I can use for both partridge and waterfowl, and friendly with children. I've had Labs in the past, but would like to consider other types as well. Can anyone offer any suggestions on other types, or breeders who may have puppies available? Thanks, Tom

Fields are bare so retrieving drills are easily done.

The hounds love to run rabbits now, its a perfect time to start young pups.
