Thanks for adding me. Was just at Complete last week with my husband. We're actually trying to coordinate another trip in to bring our daughters in for the shooting package. They've also caught gun fever.... Our youngest (13) has decided she wants her own 22. this year for her birthday!

I got a reply back from the Canadian WIldlife Center on my question about enforcement. Here is a copy for your information. It appears that they will replace the retired staff in Lewisporte. Two officers there and possibly add more to St. John's. Apparently there is an office in Corner Brook. Anyway here is the reply.
Thank you for addressing my concern. It is imperative that there be a presence of officers and enforcement of bag limit for murres and sea ducks.

Dear Mr. Winsor,
Thank you for contacting Environment and Climate Change Canada's Public Inquiries Centre.
On behalf of our program staff, please find below a response to your inquiry.
Dear Mr. Winsor, thank you for your email. The Government of Canada is committed to maintaining robust enforcement of environmental laws. To best serve Canadians, Environment and Climate Change Canada’s Enforcement Branch aligns its resources in the most efficient way to effectively address wildlife and pollution crime risks. The Department will continue to ensure that non-compliance is addressed and that the protection of migratory birds continues.
Following the retirement of ECCC’s wildlife officers in Lewisporte, the Department reassessed its staffing requirements. Our Wildlife Enforcement Division maintains a strong presence in Newfoundland and Labrador, with officers based in Corner Brook and St. John’s and travelling throughout the province in performing their duties.
All interested parties have to contact the decision makers & get some enforcement in this province. If we don't the consequence is obvious. They did say that DFO officers can do this job if they were mandated. Interesting.

I thought so to but that comes from the Provincial Wildlife Office in Whitbourne. I had a chat with them and two officers there said there is only one. The rest were let go under Harper. They could be wrong but I'm not so sure. Give John Pretty a call at 772-6530 to verify that.

Here is a copy of an email I sent to Environment Canada - CWS branch.
It is perplexing that NL has only one enforcement officer to cover the whole province. Our waterfowl population, in particular eider ducks and murres are under a great deal of stress from over hunting due to a lack of enforcement. I ask the question, "Why do we not have adequate enforcement as required under the Migratory Game Bird Act?

There is one CWF officer in Newfoundland. His name is John Pretty. His office number is 772-6530. Cell. 685-5521. If people played by the rules, there wouldn't be a problem. I do know that DFO can cover this but they don't. The problem simply is lack of political will by the Feds.
