Two men have been charged in what officials are calling a serious poaching incident near Gambo last week.
Fish and Wildlife Enforcement officers from the Gander detachment were conducting surveillance in the Traverse Brook area near Gambo overnight last Thursday, August 11.
Early the next morning they noticed two men in a boat come ashore near their vantage point.
The officers approached the men, one of whom tried to run away. He was nabbed following a short chase, while the other was arrested without incident.
The officers seized 54 illegally caught salmon, two nets, a canoe with an outboard motor, four knives, three coolers and a fish tote box.
The men, one from Gambo, the other from Hare Bay, were released to appear in court at a later date on poaching related charges.
