You are absolutely Correct!! Great job Fred!
Ever since I was a teenage I always took a trip or two to hunt snipe. I still do. They are a lot of fun over a good pointing dog.
If you look you can find some hot spots.
and believe it or not they are great eating birds
I love them. We usually fry the breasts, with some bacon, in the field and make a gravy. Put it between two slices of homemade bread and man o man, what a feed!
A Twillick your sure to see it around saltwater, I have never seen a snipe on a saltwater beach.Thats one difference, another is a snipe can make a sound with its wings, when its flying.Thats 2 I'm sure theres more.
I had never seen a snipe on a salt water beach UNTIL I started hunting around Gambo. Down there I have seen them in the salt marsh next to the bay. Having said that the water there is pretty brachish.

I guess its during migration but at time the twillicks are in the hundreds in Freshwater bay
I have seen Thousands of Twilicks near freshwater. But, Like you I have never seen snipe near salt water. The reason I posted this is to prevent people from killing twilicks by mistake. It is very easy to do when they burst out of cover. I almost killed a few myself!! Ed
its easy the snipe will make a squawk at top of jump and usually a squirt of s@%t
twillicks usually fly a few hundred feet up the beach and pitch again.

You will always see a twillick before it flies. You will raely see a snipe.
Altho last year I saw a snipe with young ones
That is great info, especially for new hunters. I think it is very important for people to understand what they are shooting at. Ed
the clouration on there body is quite diffrent the snipe is brown and the twllick is gray
the snip's bill is slightly longer
yes and the twillick stands more upright versus the squatting snipe
ya the snipe is shorter and darker colour
