Yeeeeeeee Haaaaaaa.

If Joe gets charged I will absolutely go bizarck! (that even a word)

If that's the case, so should the guy up in New Brunswick. Only the same situation.

True Brandon, we will have to see if that will be the case. If not than joe do have something to go on.

No Way!  Never should he be charged.

I agree, if wildlife didn't know what it was it hard to come back and charge someone for the crime of being very helpfull to them. He did all they asked and then some. They make a fine bunch.

I agree Ken. The Experts had a hard time identifying it.

This is a case of mistaken identity, Joe was hunting coyotes and this animal came in to a coyote call, meanwhile looking at this animal through a scope and trying to place the cross hairs on the vitals to ensure a humane kill.....every second counts, at best you are lucky if a coyote will stand still for any longer than 5-10 seconds. To add to this a coyote 200 yds away makes it very difficult to judge size whether or not you are looking through a scope especially if there was snow on the ground.....and REMEMBER WE DIDN'T HAVE WOLVES....... then so obviously it had to be a very large coyote, identical physical features to boot and the trigger was pulled. This is not a case of shooting a cow moose with a bull only license......at least we know we have cow and bull moose on the island and that moose usually hang around long enough to give most hunters has ample time to identify the sex.

Just to add any Newfoundland resident with a trappers license can go to Labrador and legally shoot wolves.....so!!!!!!!

Joe should NOT BE CHARGED and I for one will be totally disgusted if that decision is otherwise.

Good points Francis, I agree totally.

Francis you would know alot about that, you have killed a few. The rush alone would throw you off and everthing eles you put into factor.

Fred ,how do you compare me to a couple of guys shooting a black lab on a bike trail with its owner right behind it on a bike. The areas I hunt you have no chance of that because I choose my areas because I don't want to be disturbed by dogs or other hunters for that matter.Experience makes a hunter and not fancy guns and gear I am not trigger happy ,trust me,I've shot thousands and thousands of rounds with canadian rangers,so shooting another bullet is no big deal. Please don't call me lucky that I shot a wolf instead of a dog.I feel insulted by the thought of that.theres alot of tree huggers and internet hunters that don't have a clue what the real hunting world is all about.Anyone is welcome to come rabbitt, partridge or coyote hunt with me its an open invitation and then place judgement on me and my hunting skills.I appreciate the support and sometimes the criticism.but please don't call me lucky.

Joe,

I was in no way comparing your incident to what happened on the Southern Shore, and I think if you read all my posts in this discussion you will see that my intention was two fold.Firstly I wanted to stimulate conversation on this issue.

One, as a group of hunters we have to be smarter about comments we make in these forums or anywhere. Way too often they tend to only strengthen the arguments of those who would put an end to hunting and fishing. I have hunted for a long time as well, and as a trapper and seal hunter I have seen the damage that we do to ourselves when our own words are used against us.

The other point I was making is that, we are responsible for our bullet. It dont matter how far anything is away or how excited we are when that time comes. As a ranger you know all too well its too late after the trigger is pulled.

As hunters our minds have to be clear when we pull that trigger.

Ultimately we are 100% responsible for our actions.

In your case I know I would have pulled that trigger the same as you and for all same reasons that you outlined. And for those reasons I dont think you will ever be charged. BUT IF for whatever reason had that wolf been someones dog and given that theres supposedly no wolves in Nfld. You would have taken the same S@#T that the hunters on the southern shore are publicly.

The fact is, that what you shot at for a coyote wasnt one, and you were lucky in that it turned out to be a wolf and not someones dog.

I have no doubts in your capabilities/abilities and I in no way intented to challenge your skills or knowledge as a hunter/shooter or even criticize your actions. As I said I would have taken the shot myself. But if I did, I sincerely apologize.I only used your situation as an example because it was your name used in the discussion.

I would love to have a day hunting with you sometime but not to place judgement but to just have a day in the woods.!!! Which really we all want to do.

Again I apologize if I offended you.

No appologie needed .Some conversation is just to stimulate more conversation, which I don't mind, just wish some of that luck would work with loto 649 and I could go on a hunt everyday for the rest of my life.
