Here is a tip for all sea duck hunter's. If you have alot of salt water run all over your gun the day you are hunting, lay your gun in a hot bath that will get ride of the salt.

I have a 12 gauge and in the off season i clean her up once a month and dry fire her and keep the action moving. I don't let it sit there for 6 month's. I do that with all my gun's. A gun can never be to clean. When the season starts i wipe it down dry and make sure i have all of the oil off before i use it.

I wipe it off with a wet rag and put in safe. Come sept or every 1000 rounds, Ill remove trigger assembly and clean and reinstall. 5 years later it looks new.!! somewhere between 5500-6000 rounds fired.

I completely take my guns apart after every hunt, clean and re-oil them and then store them in my gun safe. I will usually take them out and wipe them with an oily rag in June. Taking them apart after every hunt might be a little overboard, buts that what I have done since I was 16 and first started hunting. I had to look after my 2200, couldn't afford not to.

LOL i just give my guns to Trevor lol
If i've been out in the rain hunting or trap shooting, I partially disassemble my shotgun and let it dry over a heating duct for 2-3 days. Then I clean and oil (I personally like Break Free CLP) as it cleans, lubricates and protects. In my gun case I have a moisture absorbsion box that absrobs a surprising amount of water over a course of many months.
Does anyone use a Hoppe's Bore Snake (or similar)?  They seem like a good idea to me but I'm wondering if anyone's given them a go?  Thanks,
I have one and it's ok, i would rather use the rod. In my opp the rod give you a better cleaning. you can also use one hand for easy cleaning. Hope this helps.

Hey Guys, I think cleaning your firearms before putting away for the season is a great idea, Here's what i usually do, nothing too fantastic but seems to keep me out of trouble. First i run a pull-through through the gun and clean the bore really well say 3 or 4 times with a lite rag or suitable patch with a lite coating of oil on it to put a nice lite filim of oil on the inside of the gun ( lite not heavy LITE film of oil.) Then without getting too carried away I take whatever parts will come apart easily and give me access to the moving parts inside and I clean them with a Q-TIP first dry and when clean I use a Q-TIP with a lite film of oil and go over the same parts that are hard to reach. The worst thing you can do is apply a good soaking of oil before putting your gun away cause it collects a lot of dust clogs the parts with same and sometimes if it's not a good gun oil it will over time get still or thick (you knows what I mean)  and the parts will have to be re-cleaned before use next year. After the innards are nicely taken care of I will take a nice pice of cotton rag with the best gun oil I can buy and put a LITE film of oil on the complete outside of the weapon. All this of course after you have dried all the water and mud (if you've been duck huntin you know what I mean) off of the gun first. Then store it in a safe invironment away from the ammunition (seperate place all together) usually put a Trigger Lock in each gun or store with the Bold out and in a locked container, this may seem to be excessive to some, but you wouldn't feel that way if some young toddler got hold of the gun and somehow managed to get the ammo in it. No don't laugh , it has been know to happen. Safety first is always best. Hope this helps
