When people modify the Exhaust Systems on dirt bikes or snowmobiles & enter areas frequented by wildlife, Where does this fit in with wildlife regulations about "not harassing wildlife" ? just curious to see what other people opinions are on this topic?

Ever since i was old enough to ride/own an atv or snowmobile i wanted it to be quiet as possible,Not only for hunting reasons but for the consideration of others, but some of those snowmobiles are beyond loud, & i think that there should be restrictions on how loud or types of exhaust aloud to be used,,for example this weekend i tried an evening hunt for a coyote & as soon as i got set up here come id say a doz. or so sleds & even though they were a km or more away i had trouble hearing the call & id say it was safe to assume that whatever coyote was in the area was high tailing it outta there, Frustrating to say the least that's for sure!
Racing quads and dirt bikes drive me nuts. Seems like a lot of people have no consideration for anyone but themselves.
I don't even bother to try a coyote hunt as long as snowmobiles are on the go, useless.
Good question. Not to mention the harassment of people with the noise all the time. I would be interested in knowing if there is any consideration in any regs concerning noise and wildlife. I simply don't understand the need for that much noise.
Send Ed Smith a note and ask him. He is president of Newfoundland Federation of Hunters & Anglers. Get his perspective on the situation.
Wouldn't really consider the noise harassment to wildlife, unless you are chasing them or circling them then its a different story. As far as coyote hunting goes, probably the only place your going to get this time of year and not be interrupted by ski doos or bikes is in the wilderness, just part of living on the avalon. Even with out a can on a skidoo when you got it wide open, its loud.
Your right on the monet David. Chasing wildlife is prohibited. I like at the coyotes in April, May & June. A little warmer and no pesky skidoos. By the way I should one this week!
Ya I guess it is a difficult question/subject for anyone to answer with all the rights, rules, & regulations? but there should be some kind of law about those modified exhaust systems in areas that wildlife frequent? & especially with moose when they are "corralled" in heavy timber for the winter or where ever they find a comfortable spot to feed & rest, just imagine what those loud piercing sounds do to them? make no wonder why every now n then they wander out on main trails or out in town limits & then all of a sudden the moose are the nuisances & dealt with! Just this past new years eve for example i seen a nice 6 point bull trotting out the road in the Carbonear area & only to find out that someone found it dead in their yard the next day & according too no gun shot wounds, Now i cant say 100% that ski-doos chased it out but im pretty certain that it was, Given the area that i noticed it in first is not a likely place to see one.
