I was checking into using a minnow trap to catch live bait for trout. The federal legislation appears to be in place (http://j.mp/S2cl7F) but I don't know about provincial legislation yet.

Anyone use them?

Unless I'm totally wrong, the use of a minnow is permitted to catch bait fish. I have never used one.

I had a reply from our provincial fisheries folks, they advise that, although the use of minnow traps is legal federally, retaining live fish is illegal provincially.I spoke with the young fella on the sports counter at Canadian Tire (Kelsey Drive), which sells minnow traps and buckets. He had never heard of any problem with using them.

I since emailed the federal folks but have not had a reply yet,

Interesting. Another stupid law that needs to be over turned.
