I'm very excited to say I'll be moving to St John's at the end of the month. I'll be new to the area and excited to learn all I can about the hunting, fishing and outdoors. I'm an avid big game hunter, but the way read the rules I won't be eligible for a resident lisence this season. So I'm curious about the small game and duck hunting. would anyone be willing to give me a quick overview of the opportunities not too far from St John's?
Our big game draw takes place late spring-early summer. There are plenty of small game animals around, google earth is the best way to look things over. We have 2 duck seasons, early season is inland ducks. We are not on the main flyway for waterfowl. most of our ducks actually winter in the province but geese do migrate. Witless bay Line is a good place to start for all.
I'm moving from Houston, Texas, but I hope you don't hold that against me! I'm on a 3-5 year hitch in St John's for work.
Before Texas I lived in north Idaho and got very used to bird hunting out my back door. I hear there is decent grouse and duck hunting to be found outside St John's. I need to learn the ropes about the laws and basics of how to find birds up there. Any advice helps.
