Hey Keith,, I am by no means a pro at callin Coyotes but I have talked to lots who are and from what i hear them saying I would like to say that you really don't need one of those expensive callers. Just remember that Coyotes can hear about 100times better than you and at least as good as a moose and probably better. They can hear a mouse crawling around in the grass at about 100feet they zero in on him listen real good they ears being such when combined with their eyes can pin point the position of a mouse or mole without seeing and once pounce will put the mouse in the coyotes mouth every time.

So what I am saying is that you don't need the loud noise the e-caller will give you ,,, you just need to get a mouth caller much like a Duck call only it makes a noise like a dying rabbit (you know the way they cry when caught in a slip) well that's about the way the caller makes. And you can change it to squeek like a mouse, just fool around with that some and you can call Coyotes in pretty fast. Just don't be in too much of a hurry., keep still , and keep a sharp eye, you'll see them comin in runnin to get they prey before another dog gets it. Then move slowely from your very well hidden location and take good aim with you 22-250 ( I guess that's all you alowed to shoot them with in nfld) and make his next breath his last and hope it's a female so she can't breed. Do I hate Coyotes,, Yes I do because I can't go to the woods without a firearm now that I'm gettin up in age and when they will Kill people ,, it could be as well as anyone, I fish a lot in the spring and hear them all the time and I don't like it. At least a Black Bear if he hears you will get out of the area as fast as he can, and so will most coyotes most of the time but there's always the other times. Hope this helps ya by .

I have a Foxpro, Spitfire, seems pretty good, About $210 @ Cabelas, I think Coastal has them too.

Just thought I would let you know Keith that I was talkin to a buddy today who kills a lot of yote's and he uses a call named RABIT IN DISTRESS by Buck Gardner. Aparently it's a 2 in 1 call. Rabbit in Distress and a mouse squeeker . I guess he gets lots of yote's with it. Hope this helps ya man. Seems the price is like 12.95 is all. Got it at Bass Pro Shops, but I'm quite sure you could buy it at your local huntin store.

Personally I like electronic callers. coyote have a great sense of hearing as already described, and i'd hate to startle one away by screwing up a mouth caller at the wrong moment.

Foxpro has many electronic callers, some are expensive and feature packed. I bought the Spitfire model which is on the lower end of the spectrum but has all the features I want. It holds 24 sounds which can be swapped out through computer software for your own recordings or more sounds download from the foxpro website. It has a great remote with a long range (at least 100 yards with a good battery) for changing, muting, adjusting volume...etc. Battery life is great and has been reliable.

The only feature it dont have and you dont really need is the ability to create and play a play list of sounds. Teh next model up has that feature for about $100 more. The spitfire is a little less then $200 from bass pro, and about $259 at Coastal Outdoors locally.

First call I had was  raspy rabbit got from fellow who sells them on utube. Also downloaded calls from Varmit Als page as well as crow calls and burned them off on a cd and took an old Toyota radio/cd player put it in a box plywood with a speaker and used taht on my ATV. Since that I purchased a wireless one with a remote and find the  bunch of crows call and rabbit distress call really works well for me as  long as you play the wind and cammo right.

I have the 16 min sequince on an mp3, gonna try it next trip. mabey tomorrow.

when using the mouth call, i often wonder if im just doing harm, i mean, it sounds good to me, but havent called anything in, except a few crows.

make the sound of a rabbit in distresss soft at first is what I do then  louder for awhile. I find a bunch of crows to be a good call too very early in morning with the rabbbit in distress. I have mostly foxes come in as well as the occasional coyote.        Went in this morning for 3 hrs and called in 2 owls and a fox 0 coyotes although there was one howling. Just find a good hill and give'er   luck@@

If you want a budget e-caller I saw an article a while back. Guy bought a small cheap toolbox, half size of a shoebox. Then bought two stereo speakers and installed them into the sides of the tool box. Ran a 50ft "headphone" extension cord to his mp3 player. Download the calls you want and you have yourself a cheap e caller!

dont think that will work you will need an amplifier (bullhorn) of some sort as mp3 are very low voltage and will not work with ordinary stero  speakers of say 8ohms or so. if you are going to use it to call predators you will have to be well cammoed; they are looking at where the sound is coming from or get some sort of remote to start/stop it or keep it running all the time using a sequence which you can download; so you can lay it down in grass and walk shooting distance from it. By the time you get the necessary parts to make this you will have spent as much (well close to) as a  cheap caller would cost. Go with the elcheapo raspy rabbit if your lungs can handle it. its a good one on ebay.I have a remote phantom pro with several good calls on it crows over bait good to 200 ft and an electronic handheld  one but seems  i get lucky with the old wooden rabbit in distress.
