I have noticed that alot of pond on the side of the roads are getting very fished out. This is due to overfishing and high population of people getting easy access to the ponds.

Q. Do you think that fishey's should put a Band on some if not all ponds that are close to the road, to no fishing???

Pritty soon we will see no fish in these ponds at all and it woun't make a difference.

The size is right david.

lol 6 inches !!! For a brook trout.

I wonder how many times a 6 inch trout has had the chance to spawn.?

Thats just ridiculous. And then wonder why its fished out.

We are our own worst enemies..

yup its a awful small limit, I think it should be at least 10 " give them smaller trout another season to grow at least.

One challenge faced by DFO on the issue of trout management is the fact that its an unlicensed activity. This makes it difficult to poll the users as to opinion on Trouting Issues" ie size, seasons etc.

As with hunting there is no consensus among those who participate, only fragmented opinions. There is no unified group that speaks on behalf of hunters and anglers. But at least with hunters they have an idea as to how many and who are out there.

Its interesting to note, that most scientists you might ask would tell us, that in almost all cases. Putting size restrictions ( most places call them slot limits) in place would in a short period of time yield more fish and bigger fish. Its been proven to work all over the world.

There are several ways to implement Slot limits but a basic premise is letting fish grow to sexual maturity. Let them spawn at least once.

Whatever size that is ought to be the minimum size.

Right now I think that trout numbers are in decline. And have been for some time. To that end we as users of this resource should be asking for reduced day and possession limits, with increased minimum sizes.

Some areas in Central have already reduced limits ( Indian Bay and Rodney Pond waters cut bag limits in half) and have seen recovery from the  lows of just a few years ago.
