The hilarity of all this moose collision stuff is starting to get to me.  Moose have been here since 1906...sure, not naitive, but here a lot longer then most people in NL.  If we as hunters, and outdoors men and women dont stand up for the moose, people like Eugene Nippard are going to have them annihalated!  The moose is getting a horrible reputation, but nothing is being done to show how the people drive.  speed is the number one factor...there is never a news release saying that someone hit a moose because they were doing 100kph at 630am, or 830pm...this is turning into a sh!t show!

Let me add more to this argument... I am speaking mainly to the Avalon, where most of these "accidents" occur. development over the last decade has exploded beyond belief. Places I used to hunt are now subdivisions, industrial parks, and shopping centers. Habitat loss has fueled the moose on the road phenomena. For instance I hunted a pond just outside of paradise, then comes the outer ring road and that spot is useless as more and more traffic is surrounding it. Moose that used the corridor prior to the road construction are now crossing the highway! why Because we have constructed an artificial path through their territory! Not native you say, Neither are we, The last time I checked we came from Ireland, Scotland, Britain, and a whole host of other countries! Just my two cents!
I heard it on the radio today, and if I heard it right there is a lawyer looking into moose vehicle accidents. It said that if they find that there was a possibility of moose vehicle accidents being a issue back then, that anyone involved in a accident may be able to sue the goverment for negligence.. did anybody else hear this on the radio, i think it was 103,9 i heard it.
Im all for the moose in this province. They deserve to be here as much as we do. to the extreme...are we going to cull bad drivers cause they cause accidents...no...

we invaded their homes! we put highways across their habitat, and continue to drive like idiots...we are asking for it!

i might hit a moose tomorrow...but it wont be cause i was driving like a moron at 530 in the morning. i make the commute from whitbourne to town at 515 am and 630 pm back out...prime time for the moose, and have never had a close call. i have seen a ton of moose o the road, but i adapt to the time of day..those who dont are asking for it!
