Just wondering if anyone knew of a decent spot to sight in a rifle instead of the rod & gun club? Nothing against the club at all its just a little bit of a drive and not really up for paying $80 to head up twice a year to sight in my firearms. I'm in the Torbay area but pretty much willing to drive anywhere just outside the city.Be nice to find a good pit with a 200 yard length to it or pretty close. Thanks!

There is a place on the Foxtrap Acess Road. As you turn off the highway and head towards Foxtrap, there is a road on your left turn up there and you will see a gravel pit. It has a great backstop. Remember to get a permit.

Hey Stephen,

There is a Gravel pit across from the Rod and Gun Club that a lot of people use because it is free. Hope this helps, Ed

Hey Ed,

when you say across from the gun club do you mean on the opposite side of the highway heading west or do you actually go in the gun club road and its across from it in there? Thanks for the help.

Sorry Stephen, what I meant was on the opposite side of the highway  (heading west). Ed

I'll check it out,Thanks!

no problem glad I could help

Another quick question.......I looked up the pit on google maps and noticed the road leading into the pit.Is the road good enough for a car to go over or do you recommend heading in there with a truck?

you can drive a car in there

you can always go up northern pond road behind the chicken farm. while heading west on the tch turn off at paddys pond and head up the gravel road leading to the chicken farm but keep going until the end when it turns into the woods, gravel pit is right in there. and you can stop into the conservation office to pick up your permit at paddys pond. Only problem is the gravel pit is sometimes in use with dumptrucks coming and going so if they are working you cannot go in, wildlife will tell you this when you get the permit. but usually sundays there is no one working so head up on Friday to get your permit then head back in on sunday.

Thanks for all the help guys.I grew up in Central so trying to get familiar with all the areas here on the Avalon.

Thats what we are here for, good luck with it.

Buy a Bear lic for your area at aprox 30 buck then, take it with you durning the season date and you can site in your rifle to what ever yards you want. I lIke long range shooting for fun and paying 50 for 100 yrd is a little borning.
