I can't really suggest a place to go in that area, but I have bear hunted the past 5 years both spring and fall and have had great success.
Find a good spot to bait, if you dont see much sign, you will get them to come into the bait. I woulod suggest you get a trail cam so you can know what times they are hitting the bait. It's a great thrilling hunt and I'm sure you will love it once you do it. It is by far my favorite hunt. Keep the sweets in your baits, not too much fish, and you can use oil from cookers, to help them spread the scent of the bait around. It works great. We always use a spray bottle with vanilla/water in it and spray it on the trees around the bait.
I have heard people using honey or bacon burns, but I have never had sucess with this, bad timing I guess. Ive bought all kinds of lures and those smelling sticks you can burn, but I think its all a waste of money to be honest. Keep you bait topped up and the bears will keep coming.
Good luck with it.
oh Yes, one other thing, make sure you have a powerful rifle, those black bears are very tough. Its amazing what they can walk away from and never be found. But since I bought my new thompson center 7mm mag, nothing got away anymore!
