Not sure about spots around St John's I'm from the west coast, but one tip would be to scout, look for areas with alot of coyote sign, also when setting up try and approach with the wind in your face and set up with wind in face or cross wind at the least.  Anything more than 25km/hr, may just be wasting your time (although if you just enjoy being out there like myself go for it but your chances are greatly reduced)  Expect the unexpected, had one this morning approach from downwind, never thought it would happen but I guess he was more interested in my decoy and the female invitation call then my sent.  Also good to know that the rut is in full swing now, so female invitation call works wonders, alot more on there minds this time of year than food, although still think a dieing rabbit would be hard for them to resist.  That's a start, wind direction to me is the most important thing to consider.
