What do you use for bear bait

I was just wondering what other people use for bait for black bears. i have been using freezer burned meats and rotten fruits.

Hey, The best and easiest thing for black bears are sweets, they have a huge sugar craving. Try getting the donuts they throw out from tim hortons. Usually if you tip on of the cashiers a few bucks each time they well save them for you and its an easy way to get garbage bags full of bait. Also, try boiling molasses get the smell in the air. Another thing I found to be great is the grease jugs that fast food restaurants throw out. If you leave a permanent blind up and throw fresh grease out regulary the bears get all that grease all over there paws and kind of leave a path back to your blind for other bears to follow.Hope this helps,

I have been hunting bears for years. And I have always been successful.

You can bait with pretty much anything and that is true. Use the sweet smelling stuff to get them in and interested then as long as you keep food there, they will keep coming back. Its true tho they wont eat anything rotten. If I bring something like that for smell purpose, I hang it in a tree in a seperate bucket.

Its amazing how particluar these bears can become. I remember one time, I always kept my old bread saved and when I would bring some I always poured molasses or syrup over it, this one time, I didnt have any of the syrup or molasses so I just threw in the bread aliong with some other scraps.

We went back the next day and everything was gone except the bread. They wouldnt eat it with nothing on it! Worse than a fussy kid! hahha

But yes all those suggestions will work. There is nothing I havnt used and nothing they havnt eaten.
