Which ATV's are legal for 2 up seats

I am wondering if anyone can help me on this.  I want to buy a used ATV with a two up seat.  Now some machines have the seat but it is not legal and some do have the seat that is legal. 

Can anyone tell me which machines are legal? 

It is supposed to say it on the seat it self and that is all the info I have found so far.  That does not help when buying used.  If I ask a guy if the 2 up seat he has is legal I may or may not get an accurate answer.  I can't spend time driving out to all the machines I want to look and find them to be not legal. 

I know that some can carry up to 180 lbs on the back but that is raw meat or other gear.  That is not a 180lb person.

Can Am has  a legal 2 passenger atv, notice the the back seat.

Arctic Cat also has a legal 2 passenger, again notice the back seat,

Polaris also has a legal 2 passenger atv,

Notice the raised foot rests and the hand grabs for the rear passenger.

There are a couple of china made atvs that are legal as well. But these would be the main 3 brands.

As stated in the motorized snow vehicles and all terrain vehicles regulations section 9 sub section 1a a person other than the operator shall not ride on a vehicle unless the vehicle is designed and equipped by the manufacturer to carry more than one person and subsection 1b the person other than the operator rides on a seat attached to the vehicle and designed to carry a passenger. Peter has this stated very well and gives you the best options.We own a 2008 Polaris 500 Touring H.O(legal 2-up).....very comfortable to ride.Right up there with the CanAm.Good luck on your search...!
