Getting my fiest beagle next week and would like to start her on a good quality dog food.  What brand/type of food are people feeding their dogs?

I have tried many different types of food with beagles before from the cheapest to the most expensive and me and my buddy both found that the dogs ran alot better and lasted alot longer while we were feeding them the ol' roy performance or the high protein.

Chase gets Nutriscience dog food and I add a glocosamine suppliment to help keep the joints nice and lose. He is only 4 now but hopefully it will help him later on.

When did you introduce him to the glocosamine Fred? Do you just buy it in pill form, crush it and sprinkle it over his food?  I would love to get Max some type of supplement that could help with joint problems in his later years. Especially with the well known history of Labs and hip/joint problems.

I have in in liguid form I pour about 6 ml per day on his food. I got it at the vets. Its called UBAVET and it comes in a 950 ml bottle.

Used to have my dog on Nutro lamb and rice, on the advice of a trainer, after a year my lab look like a boxer, major muscle mass,  unfortunately it keep getting more expensive everytime I bought it until I gave up at $90 bucks for a 18kg bag.  It went from $45 to 89 in like 4mths.

IT IS GREAT FOOD FOR SURE, TOO BAD YOU GOT HAVE DONALD TRUMPS WALLET TO AFFORD IT.

Theres no doubt that the cost of dog food has gone up.Its going to get higher. The price of transportataion and the price of the protein and carbs has as well. But on average the highest priced dog foods will equate to a cost of about a beer a day.

Here how Chases food works out.He weighs 76 lbs.Of course smaller dogs will be less and larger dogs more.

The food is about $70 a bag.for 18 kgs.( often I can buy it with 20% more promotion) and for every 9 bags I buy the 10 th is free.So cost is about $1.57 a pound. This a high quality food with the proteins coming from high quality sources. ( meat versuses vegiies)

Altho his daily amount varies thru the year but on average he eats about a pound of food per day.So his food equates to less than $2 a day.

A box of beer is approx $22 a dozen. (Sorry Im a rum drinker) so a beer is $2.20.!

Theres a lot of considerations out there when feeding your dog, but if your like most of us and only have one. The cost of food isnt one of the most important. And if you have many dogs most food suppliers will give you volume discounts.

My beagle will not eat dry food. I usually put on an extra, steak, chicken breast, pork chop etc. and mix it with can food.  This is the only beagle that does this. Most will eat anything. If I put dry food in her dish, she upsets her dish full of food on the floor. Drives me really.
lol sounds like your dog has trained you well.
She got me again this evening, to. Little bugger.
hahah dog says I think ill flip my bowl and see what peter will come up with...
haha... I figure the dog will eat anthing, but just wanted to see what everyone else was using.  I guess I'll do a bit of experimenting for the first month or so...  Thanks for the reply's fellers.
Right now with my first beagle I am feeding him Purina Puppy Chow. But, This has been a great discussion for me to read. Thanks, Everyone. and Thanks Robert for posting it! ED
