I dont have a dog to train for this fall but I have begun to work on casting drills with Chase.Altho Drahthaars are great searchers I want to be able to direct him more so I can get birds picked up faster.
Fred as you know I have a couple that I am training like every other year. Just got back from Judging the VJP in Alberta..... some nice dog work and nice scores.
Ken
How is it going.? With Fox in the box I just timed myself along to have both the height and weight by Sept. Lori is bigger than Chase, she should have no problems.Good Luck
I have a Gordon setter that willbe 15 mons this fall that I am training and I also have an English setter that will be 6 mon this fall so I may give him a try as well.
I have a 2 month old Chocolate Lab that I am going to train. First time going this far to train a dog.
So far he seems very smart to catch on to things so I hope I get him to the point that I am very satisfied with him.
at his age there is a lot you can do. But most importantly be consistant. Decide now the words you will use for commands. Is it COME or Come Here etc.
Give no command you cant enforce. use lots of treats teach him to sit for them.Or DOWN.
Youll be surprised what he can learn at this age. Does he have his own crate. Teaching him to box now is great for later.
Go easy and everything should be a lot of fun for him right.
Hey Fred, I just purchased a Yellow Lab. Only still a pup yet just 12 weeks old. Any tips or advice on how I should go about getting him involved and started in the hunting aspect of things. I am going to use him for retrival and might even try grouse and rabbit but the retrival is my main goal.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
