Hi there my name is Dave and I have lived in NL for the past 5 years. I have not seen any sign of cougars myself, but that does not mean I don't think they're here. I used to live in Ottawa and was an avid deer hunter there. After many mild winters the deer population was exploding. People started seeing cougars around and made reports to the proper authorities... police and Ministry of Natural Resources, who at first both agreed there were no such animals in eastern Ontario. After a couple years of reports of attacks on household animals ( dogs and cats ) the police made a statement that there was indeed cougars in the area. I was a member of a small deer hunting camp owned by a good friend who has a trap line on about 2000 acres of private and crown land. The M.N.R. sent him a letter warning to keep an eye open for cougars on his trap line because they had reintroduced them to help curb the overpopulation of deer. They still do not admit this to the general pubic. Just wondering, did the government of NL do the same thing here to try and tackle the coyote problem.
