There may be few in that area.  I've called in foxes while using howls on the hand calls.  Even when using challange howl.  Not often but it does happen.  ,

It may not mean there are NO coyotes but personally I dont think there are many in the area at the time the fox arrived.

I have had the same thing happening to me.I have had a ton of foxes come this fall.

I know there are coyotes there but the foxes came to the call.

Its probably a matter of what was closest.

And foxes are more plentiful than coyotes in those areas.

I wish i could see some fox. i got the trapping lic and i would like to get a few more.

They certainly wont have much value and you will learn sewing quickly. My 204 has been blowing thru them pretty bad.Your 22-250 will certainly leave a bruise. But I am surprised you havent had any come in. There are lots in your area. You should begin seeing them soon.

Over Christmas I took a few for the boys who will be using them for training this spring. Then gave up.

Ive had a couple of lynx in as well but that was earlier in November. Jays, owls, eagles and hawks are almost  every day visitors.

All i see are crows. LOL

lol, yes lots of them.Try turning down the volume a little. I found that many times I was calling too loud.

Last winter I was lucky enough to call in a big Tom lynx and it was very obvious that he was put out by the loudness of my calling especially when he got close.

After that I was more careful with how loud I called and whether it was fluke or the cause I began seeing more animals.I am constantly trying to gauge about how loud a real animal making those noises would sound. Start at a softer volume then build up and then soften it again.

Also a partner is a good thing, I have one with younger eyes , he sees way more game than me. We had a pair of coyotes in on Sunday, he dropped one I never did see the second one.But he did.

I am still learning this coyote stuff but recently things have improved.I have a long ways to go.

Keep at it. Good Luck

I shoot a 223, as long as you use a soft point bullet there will be minimum damage. I have shot them and never needed to sew them up when i skinned them. Fred do you know a guy Tom Collins?

Come spring I am going to work up some " fur friendly" loads. Yes I know Tom, hes a good guy. How do you know him

I was thinking the whole time while hunting that if a fox came out there were no yotes around just because when a fox responded to the call I never heard or seen a yote.  That was until today.  Soon as I started calling, first call was female invitation, had a response right after first call, yotes were barking and howling like crazy, after 10 min and no sighting tried rabbit in distress, out comes the fox.  Looks like they do hang out in the same areas after all.  For now on I won't give up on an area just because a fox shows up.
