Today, March 12, on CBC news, a coyote was near Paradise Elementary school.  There is footage of the coyote running around inside a chain link fence.  Wildlife officers were called, and they were using loud noises to run it off.  What scared me is that the coyote was so close to our kids.  I do believe that the animal was there looking for food.  Yes, I know there is a 10 month season on coyotes, but here are some of my thoughts.

1.  Do you think the season should be longer?

2.  What do you think about night hunts for the coyote?

3.  Should trapping be allowed for coyote year round?

if the season runs 10 months i think it may as well be year round personally...and night time coyote hunting definately....you can in most of the states...why not here.....

My thoughts are yes, yes and yes. I see no reason to close the season at all. We are trying to keep the numbers down so why close it for 2 months when juveniles are running around and more likely to come to call.

I am sure that the officials are concerned about poaching at night and I can see their side of it as well..... but like most things in NL everyone pays the price for the few offenders/poachers!!!

I would probably not actively hunt all year round, but opening the season year round would certainly make it legal to dispatch of an animal on a chance encounter during what is the closed period now. As for night hunting.... Stupid people will do stupid stuff, night or day, but responsible hunters should not be penalized for those people. I am new to this sport but from all I have read/researched, night hunting of predators greatly improves the chance of bagging more animals. For those opposed to the idea for safety reasons, they can certainly choose to abstain from night hunting thereby removing any potential safety risk to themselves.

Yes, Yes & Yes For me too guys.  If we are going to even get close to managing the coyote then things will have to change regarding our ways of hunting them. Nighttime hunting is a big thing, or I think so. It'll give us much better chances to harvest more animals. As for poaching..... it's going to happen anyways, we all know that.

Is the season closed to hunting coyote to let them have their pups????? How is this helping us control them???? Just a few thoughts! Pierce.

I think it should be open all year. I love hunting but im not for night hunting .yes trapping coyotes should be year round.well thats my 2 cents worth.

I'd hunt them year round if the season was open.

Were in the small game guide dos it say that you cant hunt small game at night! it say's that you can only hunt big game a cretin hour before and after sunset and sunrise, also you can't use any artificial light. So saying that can that can you hunt small game ( coyotes ) at night under a bright moon with snow covered ground?     Just putting it out there

Your right it does not, but I will not be the first person to try it.

It is unlawful to hunt any game with night lights of any decripton,,,,,IS the moon a night light when it is full, i dont know, but i  think it is unlawful.....

Hunters Guide says artificial lite, spot light, flood light or flash light ect...

Yes,yes and yes, I just think its going to me a matter of time before there is an instance, such as in Cape Breton. I hope not but I had them in my back yard in CBS and its in the back of my my mind when my child is out side playing.
