I am gonna be out home( bonavista peninsula) for a 4 day weekend, this coming weekend and was gonna set up on a ridge on a field, backed by a huge bog. I was wondering if what the best time of day to hunt coyotes are?

Well Jordan there a lot to think about to hunt coyotes

1 are they there

2 are you batting them

3 what calls to use

but as to the best time to hunt them would be any time

for me I will do in the am and have few stands to work with

Ok thanks, I have a predator electronic caller, and a mouth caller as well and a 22-250 and full camo. I have a few different areas in mind to hunt. One of those area I seen lots of dog tracks( I assume coyote) covering the bog last january. Would you suggest baiting? what would one use and how would I set it?( A few days or a day in advance??)

Thanks, for any help and suggestions

Also on opening day I was talking to a fellow hunter in the same area I am looking at hunting and he showed me the coyote he bagged. Took her right in the neck in the middle of a farmer field

ok, thanks My intentions are to get in just comin on daylight as well. Gonna head in on atv but leave it at the beginning of the trail and walk to the ridge, where I should have a good vantage point over the whole area

Jordan,
Make sure you sight in your rifle before you go. Wind isn't a significant factor out to 300 yards so you need to know where your elevation settings are at and adjust accordingly.A zero elevation at 200 yards is an excellent place to start. All the preparation and planning is useless if you can't hit the target. Laser range finders are a great tool as well as knowing the distance to land features around you.google earth is awesome for looking at the area from above and judging the range from where you are hunting from at your stand or blind. Homework, marksmanship, minimal movement and experience will be your best tools of all. Coyotes are smart predators. Good luck at Bonavista. Looking forward to yourreport on your return.

Thanks for the info Tony, Kris ad Mark. Cant wait to get out in the morning

I agree with that but to me it depends on the area. If you are close to people or not..For example close to a town or in the wilderness. They almost become domesticated when in an area around people. Not as Jitterish

Never seen a thing! All I got all weekend was a rabbit and a grouse, but it sure beats being home in the house!
