Hey Guys,

Really enjoying the site so far, lots of useful information on here.

Im going to be starting up a bit of coyote hunting over the next couple of weeks and was just wondering, what do you do with the coyotes after you shoot them? I mean i know how to skin one, but in the Hunter Trappers guide it states all carcasses must be brought to wildlife dropoff spot or whatever its called, so my question now is do you absolutely have to skin it before dropping it off or can you drop it off as is? I have no problem with either. Also what are the hours for dropping off or do they even have to be opened for you to drop off your coyotes because the $25 isnt a big deal to me either, if i take down a few on saturday morning for example when im in the woods i dont want to have to wait until monday to drop off the carcasses i can imagine the shed wouldnt smell to nice with a few dead coyotes in there for the weekend and i dont want to leave them outside and attract anything else to my back yard lol What do you guys usually do?

Well To be honest Steve, I think the entire carcass (skin included) is to be dropped off during regular business hours monday through Friday. I'll make some inquires for you and get back to you on this. This is a great discussion! thanks for adding it! ED

Thanks Edward. From what i read in the hunters guide it seems you allowed to skin it and sell the fur etc if you wish, either way it makes no difference to me, my main concern is hunting on the weekends and having to keep the carcass until regular business hours, i wouldnt even mind just dropping it off on the weekend and not getting the $25 if that was the case.

Just called DNR, they are open from monday-friday 8:30-4:30 but not during the lunch hour. They can be dropped of either skinned or not skinned thats up to you. They cannot be dropped off outside of regular business hours. Looks like ill be investing in a new deep freeze lol

As far as I know you can go with skin on or off, If it's on the weekend or after hours you can freeze the carcas.  Drop it off during office hours frozen, in a plastic bag, & tagged.

I think you need to make the initial visit to the office for the wildlife to give them  your information. Best to touch base with them first though, just to be sure. Good luck with the hunting. Pierce.
