In yesterday evening, saw some tracks, never called in a coyote , but a nice red fox came in to the call
very nice john.
Wolves, mainly smaller species like the Red wolf will breed with coyotes. It is a scientific fact, DNA backed!
Taken from "The Newfoundland Coyote" By Darrin McGrath Chapter 4 Coyote Biology Page 15:
"The Eastern coyote's origin may have involoved breeding with gray wolves. Researchers Robert Wayne and Niles Lehman did mitochondrial DNA analysis on 350 gray wolves and 327 coyotes. They concluded that the two species had inter-bred during the coyote's range expansion eastward where coyotes and gray wolves shared the same range at low densities. It is stated that hybrids (i.e. wolf-coyote cross) are fertile and able to breed"
hope you get another today good luck
