NO, it has to be in small game season and you have to have a small game licence, in order to use a .22LR.

@ Steve B - Are you sure you can hunt using a .22LR with a Coyote Shooting Permit?!?!?! Or are you referring to if you also have a small game license and are within that season?  This is directly from wildlife's website:

"This licence permits hunters to hunt coyote using centrefire rifle calibres up to and including:  225 (i.e: .17 Rem, .22 Hornet, .204 Ruger, .218 Bee, .222 and .223 Rem., 223 WSSM, .22-250 Rem., .220 Swift, .224 Weatherby Mag., and .225 Win).  Hunters using shotguns may only use No. 2 shot or larger (slugs are not permitted). Holders of a coyote shooting licence are not permitted to use rimfire rifles to hunt coyotes."

Did anybody hear about a coyote being shot in the east end of Bay Roberts in the past couple of days?

So now that you are allowed to take a coyote down with a 22LR, just wondering if anyone has successfully done so? Im thinking ideally you would want him to be 75 yards to closer and a well placed shot should take him out. Anyone drop one with a .22LR yet?

Wildlife advise that the next coyote/predator workshop will probably be in February 2012 for the Avalon area. They are aware of the high interest but scheduling won't permit anything earlier.

Thanks fella's.

Heard from a guy yesterday, that he has been hunting them for a year, but has not gotten one yet. Are they really that hard to hunt?

From what I gather, if you have a good setup and they are in the area. You can call them out.

Will have to give it a shot the weekend. Not sure where it will be, but at least I will get to have a boil up.  Follow your nose to the smell of canned moose on the fire and you will find me. (I'll bring an extra slice of homemade bread!)

Cheers.

Gerry, I have heard them from the far end of Bay Bulls Big pond and one got hit by a car there the other day.
