Hi everyone. I was just wondering what calls are being effective in calling in Coyote in newfoundland. I've tried handheld & electronic calls, no response.
Here's an interesting read on coyote hunting and calling tips:
http://www.cabelas.ca/outdoor_info/field_and_buying_guides/coyote_c...
I just bought Quaker Boy's "Chompers 3-pack" coyote calls (Merry Christmas to me). Hoping to try them out sometime in the new year. QB's website describes them as "a unique and authentic combination of hands free sounds that will fool the wariest of predators". I've heard these calls are particularly good. Canadian Tire has 'em for $28.99.
• The long range (clear) call is designed to produce the loud, raspy sounds of rabbits in distress.
• The mid range (smoke-colored) call will produce clean, less raspy cries and screams.
• The short range (black) call is your finishing call. It produces the soft cries of small rodents.
Apparently when you set up you are supposed to start with the close-in call first at a low tone, just in case there's a coyote nearby that you didn't see. Then after a few minutes with no response, go to the midrange, then the long range in turn. Once Wile E. takes the bait, you lure him closer by gradually moving to the closer-range calls in turn.
