Had a great weekend fishing back in central. Lots of fish moving. Fished Tommy's Arm river with only a few fish around, an older gentleman on the brook said the main run hadn't started yet.
Went to Indian Brook near Springdale( falls by the park). Seemed to be lots of fish coming up , unfortunately there were also a lot of rods on that river. Noticed a few "River Richrads" running down to the river and jumping into the pool a guy had just caught a salmon. Don't know about you but I like to be more than four feet away from another fisherman in a pool.
Fished Western Brook. Not too much on the go there. Neither rods or fish.
Fished the head waters of south pond. The amount of fish there is unbelievable. I hooked six fish all together. I couldn't even tell you how many I saw come up or porpoise. Too many rises to keep track. The water was high, meaning that the usual areas had too much white water ( with some exceptions) and the lower areas were holding a lot of fish. The lips of most falls seemed to be very productive. Many fish being caught and about a quarter being retained.
Now for the fly patterns. The good old white blue charm seemed to do the trick at first. Noticed that blue charm/thunder n lighting patterns with the addition of some krystal flash in the wing, butt, and rib were the bomb. My buddy was using a Mickey Finn and had great success. The first time I had heard of anyone using it successfully out in those parts. I used a couple of new patterns myself and Ed dreamed up called the Uncle Dirt and Papa Dirt. The salmon seemed to come savage again and again for those two.
Anyhow, two weeks until I get back out. Tight lines to all !!
