Cain's Quest snowmobile race going on hiatus in 2013.
(Cain's Quest got underway in Labrador last month. The next race won't start until 2014 at the earliest, as the event takes a planned one-year hiatus.)
Organizers of Cain’s Quest, the snowmobile endurance race through the Labrador and Quebec wilderness, say the event won't be run next year.
The race started in 2006 and has grown in size and distance ever since.
This year, 35 teams raced over 2,500 kilometres, making it the most successful race to date.
Todd Kent, co-chair of Cain’s Quest, explains why the race is taking a break.
“It was successful this year, but we're getting some volunteer burnout and those sorts of things,” Kent told CBC News.
“It's gotten so big so quickly we find ourselves in a position now where we have to stand back, have a look at where we are, where we want to go, and how we want to get there, and make it the world-class event that it already is. We just want to make it better.”
Kent says teams have already contacted race organizers to ask about registering for the race in 2014.
