it sure was sick, the double back flip can be done, Levi Lavalle was the first to do it but the landing is tricky. Going to be interesting to see whats up next though... Maybe someone will land the barrel roll !!
that was very cool... This year's x-games were sick! Almost a double back-flip to go along with that front flip.... almost...
Well there is another first in the snowmobile world, last night at the winter x games Heath Frisby successfully landed the first ever front flip on a snowmobile ( a ski-doo I might add LOL). Wonder what the next big trick will be.
DEER LAKE — It’s that time of year. The snowmobile trail groomers have begun their task of smoothing over the trails for what the Newfoundland Snowmobile Federation (NLSF) hopes will be a much better season than last year.
The decibel levels around Deer Lake have been climbing higher and higher as more people start up their sleds to go for a ride. Rider Jason Adams said he was pleased that the trails are finally being groomed. Adams was riding the trails around Deer Lake and said he went as far as the main dam.
“The trails seem to be in good shape so far but I’m noticing there are a lot of dips that I think they need to fill in,” he said. “But it’s OK, it’s going good so far.”
Deer Lake riders Tyler Toope and Jason Companion were out riding their machines Thursday afternoon, and in spite of the -10 C weather were having a blast.
“I think they’re doing OK, the trails seem to be in good shape to me,” said Toope. “As far as I can tell it’s a good time, we were on the trails before today, but it’s good that it’s officially started.”
Companion said he wasn’t sure he saw much of a difference between a pre-groomed trail and a post-groomed trail.
“I don’t really know why the trails need to be groomed,” he said. “But I’m happy to be out here and for all the snow we got, and I hope we can keep doing this for a long as possible.
NLSF spokesman Donnie O’Keefe said the official opening day of the snowmobile season went well.
“We’re trying to get out there and get started, people are calling and wanting to know what’s going on,” said O’Keefe. “It’s going pretty good, we’re trying to get mobile and get some groomers in place and get some of the main trails up and running in time for the weekend.”
Last year the groomers had to be shut down in March, shortening the season considerably due to lack of funding from trail pass sales and a harsher than usual winter climate. So far the area has seen much more snow spread out over a better time period to be able to get the trails in shape, and O’Keefe said now that the groomers are out he believes more riders will purchase a pass.
“We’ve had some good meetings today with local clubs and I honestly believe the clubs are onside,” he said. “We’ve given them a certain amount of hours to go grooming with and in order to get more hours, they need more trail passes.”
He said members will start enforcement to be sure all trail users have stickers.
“If you ride along side a member and you don’t have a trail sticker, they’re going to say something,” he said. “Before they might have thought it’s not worth the confrontation but now they know it means more grooming hours and we’re not asking for vigilantes, what we’re saying is we expect more peer pressure out there to be sure everyone has a trail pass.”
