33 lb. female with a radio collar. Called in and shot at about 70-80 yds. around 9:00am on Feb. 22, 2012. Two came to the call at about 20 minutes but the other one ran in fast right up to the Foxpro caller, jumped right on it, and ran away even faster. This is an older type collar that she has been wearing for a while judging by the wear on it. The new ones are tracked by satellite.

Finally got a bit of info on the collar. Just what they could tell me from the number on it because I still have it.. She was collared in the winter of 2009 near White Bear River, east of the Burgeo Road. Caught by helicopter using a net gun. The battery went dead in the collar in late 2010. I asked for the info from the collar when it's eventually checked and will post it on here when I get it.

Got her 34 kms. north of Burgeo along the Burgeo Road. Google maps has a big cloud on the satellite image right about where I got her.

Questions! Questions!

I used a couple female howls then rabbit squeals a couple minutes after. Repeated both at least twice, then used the hurt coyote pup and back to the rabbit. Did the calls over a period of twenty minutes or more. I think it was the hurt pup sound thet got them coming in on the run. I had been looking through my binoculars for a minute and when I took them down they were nearly to the caller.  I couldn't get to the mute button on the remote fast enough so the Foxpro was screaming like a dying rabbit and that's why the male attacked it.

As for my rifle and scope, it's a Tikka T3 .22-250 with a Nikon Coyote Special scope. I really like Tikka rifles. I have shot quite a few rifles in over twenty years of guiding and have never felt a bolt action so silky smooth, even on some very expensive custom rifles. Nice light trigger pull too. Highly recommended.

I will post the info on the collar when I get it. Should be interesting as I think she was wearing it for quite a while. And yes, I believe she was in heat. She was leading the male until just before he hit the caller. He turned and ran but she stood and stared at my rabbit decoy.(Miss Hoptober from Montana Decoy)
