Looks like a very good area for Mergansers ( Shellbirds ) . Where are you located ? it looks like all of the Mergansers have migrated your way. We use to have a fair number in this area ( Burgeo ) at one time, not anymore. We are seeing more Ring necks and Blue Bills.

that looks like you had a real good day

lots of people turn down mergansers but we consider them real good eating

was this this fall? hunting was very bad here in central this year

Look's like someone had a good day shooting. Nice, 40 birds is alot of birds, you must be in the flight path.
