My father always called it a Flicker, used mostly for sea ducks off the cliffs and he would be 100 years old this year if still alive. I have heard them called Ferryland dog too.

I can remember the days when we would swim to them up until sometime in november. When I got older the "dead dogs" was the way to go. Now I got Chase he can do the swimming

We usually call them "Floating Jigger" or "Wooden Dog"...Like Fred said below I too have a retractable rod with a small floating jigger on it.. Works GREAT!!

We always called them "dry dogs" up this way, guess it depends on what bay you're from lol

lol. I always called them "dead dogs" also I have used retractable rods with a broom handle with fish hooks with great success.
