How does everyone feel about this new ban on hunting Caribou in Labrador? good to see the government doing something but it still has to be inforced and they will have to find a way to convince the Innu to stop their hunt. That being said i can respect their reasons for the hunt in that they say they need to do this to to preserve their culture and to pass it on the the next generation. i agree with this but  in my opinion if they are saying this is culture and heritage then i feel it should be done the way their ancestors did it, with handmade tools, bow and arrows, spears etc. and not a spanking new high powered rifle and no use of ski-doos to get in and out with the animal. also i do not feel it would be too much to ask for a very limited hunt from the Innu or at least give it a few years to see if the herd can rebound and grow a bit more. All that being said i still believe there is more to the decline in the george river herd than man but unfortunately government are only talking about one problem at the moment. and i'm still new to hunting and still learning about conservation and i'm really excited to help do my part and i look forward to hopefully being able to hunt for a long time to come and to teach my son how to hunt and be respectful to the land and animals and help protect and conserve our wildlife.

So how does everyone feel?

I have to agree that it is nice to see a ban on the caribou hunt. Ya maybe a total ban for the innu is a bit harsh but where does it stop. How will they ever enforce the innu only to take a limited amount of caribou. I just don't like hearing them come on the radio or tv and complain that it is there right and always has been and wanting to keep the tradition etc. I have been up there before in the past and have seen first hand how traditional they do things. If they want to keep tradition than don't use snow machines and what not. I'm sure that not all the innu abuse the system but some do and that is where the problem lies. I dont want to elaborate too much on this subject because i dont want to offend anyone, but in order to help try and get this herd to recover everyone should be banned like u said for a couple years anyways.
