Just wondering how everyone's rabbit season went? Quotas? How about snaring? How many did you lose due to the unreliable snare material?

Hi, December 29 and lots of snares left in the woods.  Worst is they will probably be left in the woods now with all the snow.  Steel wire is now illegal to use in this province but it is still being used.  Problem with using steel wire is it don't rot, heavy snow don't beat them down and a dog can't bust it off.  When they are left in the woods by some people who don't bother to close them up the snow will melt in the spring and the snare is still set-up hunting 24/7 until something gets caught in it.  Nothing against anyone who snares but I would much rather see brass and picture wire being used.  If you are losing alot of rabbits in one area you may have a coyote/lynx checking out your snare line following behind you on your scent, once they learn they won't forget.   Every fall when I start to run my dogs guarenteed sooner or later when walking down a path you will get the smell of a rotting carass and there is the rabbit left in a snare with brown fur not white.   Then you have people who will go out and set a couple of hundred snares and I doubt that all will ever get closed when your only allowed 40 rabbits in your possession, like ghost nets in the ocean still killing but a waste.
