But mike to those ppl who are stealing it's not common sense, it's plain don't give aF&%k. Ask shawn reid, tony cooney, jason, tyler, randy or anyone who traps on this site how much gear get's taken in a run of a season. The people who are setting around you are not trappers, they are the ones who just don't care. Maybe they are trying to catch your dog and others to get them away from the area, so they can hunt it. Those are the people i would like to catch in the woods, the one bending over to take a snare on me. Don't get me wrong we are on the same page, Common sense and scouting goes a long way.
They are not all idiots setting snares and we have all the right. But i will tell that when someone gets there snares taken on them, that person will go and reset that group of snares they just took and set them where people hunt. Maybe there intent is to hurt dogs that hunt there. But i will say this for all GOOD TRAPPERS who TRAP. We are not in ares where there are dogs running, family playing and have a bunch of hunters running around, trails are clearly marked. The main reason why we don't set around hunters is, we still want our gear intack when we return. So not all trappers are idiots, only the one who are doing the robben. It's people like that are giving people who trap a bad name and they are not even trappers. It's no different than a poacher, that far gone just don't give a shit what he kills or what he takes.
Right, but now we have an organization to fight for important aspects of the outdoors. So we need to stand up and be heard. A youth mentorship in school would work wonders on changing attitudes of up comming hunters and outdoor users.
Yup!! I agree. We just need to brainstorm an idea that helps.
I think the shooting test is a total waste of time and does nothing towards the safety or the quality of a shot taken by a hunter. The old test was at 50 yards and you had to hit 2 out of 3 shots. I remember using my cousins gun (30 30 winchester with a scope). First time I fired a rifle and nailed it. Did that make me a better hunter? I don't see how... The problem is the brain and its lack of use. I bet I could come close to that 50 yard target by shooting from the hip with a slug now. People are LAZY LAZY LAZY AND THEY DON'T GIVE A SHIT IF THEY HIT THE ANIMAL OR NOT. Shooting at a target at 50 yards does not, does not, does not change their frame of mind. Sad but true.
The only answer is by one's own morals. Do I take a shot, that I have very little chance of making or even a 50 50 chance of making? If the answer is yes there is nothing that can be done. The hunter has no code of ethics and it don't matter how many shooting tests he passed.
