I do the majority of the hunting on the Northern Peninsula, but I doubt you're gonna want to drive 12 hours, haha. Conception Bay always has a lot of Eiders, and out around Carbonear is pretty decent too I'm told.

Cool Thanks. Any idea of which part of the province is best? I live on the avalon, any ideas about here? no need to give away any secrets, LOL. And Thanks for joining this site! I created cause I love duck hunting and was wondering if there were others like me here on the Island. Ed

Hey Edward...nice on starting the site, by the way!

For turrs you need a boat as the birds are normally offshore. I usually use Rio 2 3/4" lead #4, and the Federal version of that if I can't find the Rio stuff (Rio patterns better out of my gun.)

For ducks it varies quite a bit; some guys hunt from the shore without a boat and use a dog for retrieving. We usually hunt from the boat if there's a breeze on, but if the wind is pretty calm we get on shore and keep one guy in the boat for retrieving. It'd probably be easier if you just made some new buddies who already had a boat, haha. No decoys needed for turrs, but for Eiders and such I normally just toss out a couple strings of decoys. Normally use the Rio 3" Magnums because Eiders are a little bigger.

Hi Guys, Looking on getting into salt water duck and turr hunting. was wondering if anyone has any tips on what I need to get into this end of hunting. Can I hunt from shore? Or, Do I need to have a boat? what shells are best? do I need large numbers of decoys for ducks like eiders and scoters? any help would be awesome. thanks, Ed
