Trapping

Trapping Administrator
Hi, I'm John Turner was born in St. John's NL in 1976 and moved to St Lawerence in 1982. I lived there for 21 years. I then moved to Marystown. I love to hunt and trap the best thing about trapping is getting out on the hills and seeing all the wild life that's around us. So if you have any questions that I can help you with, please feel free to drop me a message.

I say the same if the dates were changed it be no good to trap the furs be no good 2weeks means a lot on the fur just to say if duck season open 2weeks early there be a lot of ducks be some small and maybe can't fly. I know one year the partridge were real small when the season open same as furs good idea but not good for the furs

No Peter not happy
With the change.always opened oct 20 as long as I can remember except mink as they don't prime until later. We will lose nearly two weeks of our best trapping time, mostly coyotes before the weather turns against us.Last fall took 22 coyotes before freeze up and every trapper knows once snow arrives , catch rates go down big time.Im from St Anthony and our weather doesn't compare with southern parts of the island.17 fox last season , 12 pod those graded heavy, they were furred and prime, don't think dates should have changed

I don't trap, don't know the first thing about it to be honest. Could you tell me how the season date change is good or bad? Sounds like your not happy with it. Is it to early for good pelts?

Just wondering how everyone feels over the trapping date changes for next season. Dates have been changed to nov. 1. Once again a few people from the Avalon have made the rules for everyone else on the island. Quite the same as our trouting season dates.

Hi John. I got the same problem with traps. I have someone setting their traps up river from mine, I even have a bait box set with this other persons set 10' away from mine. It is frustrating but I am still having fun doing this.

I plan on moving all my traps and taking a week to go further in the country. This road side trapping isn't much fun when you have other trappers taking/setting new gear and just plain not having any respect for others.
