Murre (turr) hunters:

All hunters must purchase and be in possession of a Migratory Game Bird Hunting Permit and a Habitat Conservation Stamp while hunting murres. This hunt is only open to residents of Newfoundland and Labrador. Murres are the only migratory bird that can be legally hunted from a power boat. Any occupant of a boat who shoots or retrieves murres, or anyone who operates a boat to pursue murres, is hunting as defined in the Migratory Birds Regulations and is required to hold a Migratory Game Bird Hunting Permit.

In Newfoundland and Labrador, non-toxic shot must be used to hunt migratory birds, except for murres (turrs). For those birds still hunted with lead shot, remove the lead shot before cooking whenever possible in order to reduce your exposure to contaminants.

in the rules and reg it says you are allowed 20 per day and 40 in your possesion per person,if you have three guys in a boat does that mean your allowed 60 turrs for that day,or is it 40.

2 places to launch in placentia. 1 in placentia itself just back from the lift bridge. the second is in Argentia on the old naval base. Placentia the birds are out a ways. I heard you can launch in Angels cove I think it is called. St Marys most people launch in O'Donnels or Riverhead.

Where do most fellows launch when they go to Placentia Bay?

Were you out yesterday?  I heard that there were birds in Placentia Bay and St. Mary’s Bay.  A few fellows that I know were out in Trinity Bay yesterday, but no birds.  The most that I heard anyone getting was 8. Some fellows didn’t get any.  You’ll see thousands in Trinity Bay in late April and early May when the seals are in the bay and the season is closed. Always the case.

Update on turrs in Conception Bay.

Had a trip on Conception Bay today.  Didn’t see one turr.  Left Foxtrap at 8am and steamed directly across the bay off Cupid’s.  Then steamed out the bay to below Carbonear Island.  Left there and steamed back across the bay to between Bauline and Cape St. Frances, then steamed back in the bay on the outside side of Bell Island until we crossed over the route to where we left Foxtrap. The only wildlife we saw was two porpoises and around 40 seals.  Not a bird alive.

I'll try and see what I can find for you tomorrow.
