Murre (turr) hunters:

All hunters must purchase and be in possession of a Migratory Game Bird Hunting Permit and a Habitat Conservation Stamp while hunting murres. This hunt is only open to residents of Newfoundland and Labrador. Murres are the only migratory bird that can be legally hunted from a power boat. Any occupant of a boat who shoots or retrieves murres, or anyone who operates a boat to pursue murres, is hunting as defined in the Migratory Birds Regulations and is required to hold a Migratory Game Bird Hunting Permit.

In Newfoundland and Labrador, non-toxic shot must be used to hunt migratory birds, except for murres (turrs). For those birds still hunted with lead shot, remove the lead shot before cooking whenever possible in order to reduce your exposure to contaminants.

in the rules and reg it says you are allowed 20 per day and 40 in your possesion per person,if you have three guys in a boat does that mean your allowed 60 turrs for that day,or is it 40.

I am thinking the high winds is having a major impact on turr hunting.

Just reading all the posts that everybody has been posting about turr's in placentia bay. Here are my thoughts on it as I have grown up and hunted placentia my whole life.

About where the turres come from on placentia I think most of the turr's we get there come from the gulf/anicosti island area and off the Labrador coast through the staits. If you look at the areas that get turres before we do home first they come to the southwest coast port a basque are the fortune bay then placentia bay. But no time during the year were the turres around trinity/ conception bay areas. There were a lot of birds about 30- 50 miles off st johns in november but that's it. The reasons you guys are not getting turres in trinity bay are 1 I don't think the amount turres are not around to push birds in the bay because from talking to people I work with those turres were always offshore. And the second is as you guys already stated the weather is not there to get the ice like we always did before.

About the issue of turr limits I do think they should be reduced to 10 per person and you might be right there might not be more turr's shot now then there was say 20 years ago but who's to say the damage wasn't done then. I think the big problem is not with people getting turrs to eat but it's the people who are selling them. Or maybe wildlife should be keeping a closer eye on it. For instance if you are checked two days in one week and have your limit both times. If u are checked the third time with your limit you should be charged as you are over your possession limit. Last year was the most pressure I have ever seen in placentia bay and if it keeps up there soon won't be any limits gotten anyway.

That's just my thoughts on the issue

actually its just a sign of the changing of times.People are only using whatever technology thats available. We always had contacts that we called to find game. I still call contacts to ask about birds, fish or game.

lol the "NET" just lets more people know.

Cheers boys,

I think we all are at this for the same reasons, and there is too much bickering, Half the reason I started hunting in the first place, lol (peace and quiet).

I think the main problem is the price of fuel keeping us of the bay more and more.  If it was free I think I wear out a motor every couple of years.  lol

Best kind Scott. Big effort last year.  Not stereotyping or at least I never meant to anyway.  Just bugs me to see so called "hunters" doing what seems like more hunting the airways than hunting the outdoors.  Not like yourself.  First post I seen on here from you and thats a lot of hunting you did last year.  As far as reports go I just wanted to vent on that too.  If I had to rely on reports to bring turrs  or any other game home I'd likely starve.  Reports never gave me much more than grief especially when it comes to looking for turrs.  Just gotta burn the fuel n take your chances in my opinion.

I honestly don't see anything wrong with getting a heads up on a few turrs around. I have told lots of people where they can find a few rabbits or ducks or even reported seeing a moose to moose hunters. Thats one of the good things, about this site. I appreciate a heads up. Whats wrong with that?
