NEW No Changes To Food Fishery This Year: McDonald
May 19, 2017 | 11:14 am
The federal government has decided to stay the course when it comes to this year’s food fishery, but licensing may be introduced next year.
MP Ken McDonald made the announcement this morning in Holyrood.
The federal government had been contemplating the introduction of a tags program for the recreational groundfish fishery, a notion that was widely condemned during a series of public consultations.
This year’s fishery will be the same as last year’s, which saw the season extended by 14 days.
DFO says it is considering the introduction of a marine recreational fishing licence – without the use of tags – next year. Consultations on that idea will take place throughout Atlantic Canada and Quebec over the coming year.
