Alleged Salmon Poachers Arrested

Fish and Wildlife Enforcement Officers with the help of DFO and the RCMP have brought a halt to an alleged illegal salmon-netting operation on the Burin Peninsula.

Wildlife officers set up surveillance in the Bay L'Argent area after receiving a number of complaints of poaching. Two people who were arrested are facing a number of charges including the netting and illegal possession of salmon, as well as obstruction.

Two boats and two nets were also seized.

There are dozens, if not hundreds of these illegal operations on the go and most have been for years and years.DFO can tell you who most are. Catching them is something else.

The key thing is the fact that they got reported, thats the best line of defense there is. We never did nor we ever will have enough officers to even slow it down.And one look at any days headlines and you will soon see that we aren't even on the priority list as long as expenditures and revenues are like they are here in Newfoundland.

Medical services got a D, Oral surgeons leaving, Bell Island dont have a sensible ferry, etc etc etc...

If we think for one second anyone others than Hunters or Fishers could care less, we are very naive.

On some other post someone said that now I can poach all I like, due to the lack of wildlife but as a joke. Well it's not only the wildlife who are looking out for poachers, it every hunter that likes to fish and hunt.
