A lynx that escaped Salmonier Nature Park during Tropical Storm Leslie is still on the missing list. The park is closed due to signficant damage caused by the storm on Tuesday.  Fences around animal enclosures were blown down resulting in some moose and caribou getting out during Leslie. They were all returned to their enclosures not long after by park officials.

Two lynx also escaped during the storm, one of which was live trapped later by employees. However, the other is still on the lam. The Department of Environment and Conservation says animal care staff set live traps, both in the park and in Deer Park where there was a possible sighting last night. It hasn't been confirmed that the lynxspotted there is the park escapee, as wild lynx are known to be in that area.

Staff are placing more live traps in the hope that the lynx will return to its habitat for food. The park has been closed until further notice as repairs are carried out to damaged boardwalks caused by broken trees.
