So what does everyone think of this 82lb "Coyote"
Tags:
If you think there are coyotes in NL bigger or around 50lbs, Im sure its quite possible, But if you catch one it would be worth your while to send it in to the govt considering the biggest weight we have recorded is in the 40lb range.
not to mention Coyotes already prey on moose. lol
I can't remember if Nathan said it was 56 or 59 pounds. There have been several over 50 pounds. I agree on average they are 40 pounds or less.
But the question was this, do you agree with this statement, “The biggest one that’s ever been seen on the island is about 40 pounds".
My answer is no. Nathan Spence, the coyote expert from the DNR office has told thousands of people the biggest is well over 40 pounds, the biggest was 56 or 59 pounds. He has said that at every Coyote Hunting Seminar.
All the information about the largest coyotes on record is in the article i just posted a few links back!
I have shot a few over the years and the biggest were 46lb and 43lb and they were running together. I was actually a little disapointed after I weighed them becuase they looked to be about 80 lb. I have a picture of them hanging in my shed and I will post it when I find it.I do believe that there are much bigger around and you can see from a picture I posted a few days ago of a large track (using a coke can for comparison), two of them were running together and one was twice the size of the other.
There was a pack of 8 Coyotes/Coyote Hybrids seen in the Leonard Lake area of Central NL last week.
Coyotes usually travel in family units but I feel as though the species is evolving at a fast pace here on the island showing pack like behaviors. 8 is a large number, but I also hear from other hunters that they are seeing them in much larger groups lately. Considering coyotes are so abundant on the island you'd think the bounty would be higher, but I'm sure the govt also has their reasons.
I love the feedback from everyone, it's great. So many thoughts, new info, sightings, etc.
My mistake here. Hybrid of coyote/wolf to make the NL coyote.
In response to one of my first comments lol
I haven't heard a word yet. I think most people believe it is a mix, be nice nice to know what percentage it is.
They know what the mother is, no word yet as to the father
