So besides a gun obviously, what would anyone here recommend as essential to hunt? If i wanted to go out this weekend for my first hunt what are the main essentials i would need? i'm just looking to get a list started as to what i need to pick up so that i can go out for a hunt when i want to during the season. any luxury items i can pick up along the way as i learn more but i'm looking to know what i absolutely need for the hunt.

Thanks.

Phil.

Camo pants, jacket & facecover. You will need a caller and decoy. Caller can be electronic or hand call. You can make a decoy from a feather, fishing line and a stick. The last thing you need is a little luck. Good Luck with it.

A LICENCE TO HUNT,,A CALLER FOR COYOTES,,GLASSES.. DRESS IN CAMO,,GOOD GPS , GOOD BOOTS..

I went out yesterday and got my camo gear, well got pants anyway, they didn't have the jacket in my size to match the pants but I do have a camo sweater and I got a mouth caller, proper ammo, face mask, scent cover. I'd love to get a foxpro but unfortunately that's out of the budget for now. Getting one in the spring. I'll be ppicking up the licence this week and hopefully a new pair of boots. Thank you all for the help. Next time I'll be asking for some of the extras and luxury items, haha

i actually found a coyote caller app on my blackberry there today. $3 and came with 25 calls, came with a good few distress calls including pup, woodpecker, cottontail, jackrabbit, mouse, rodent, chicken, fawn, and a few others. and it came with about 7 or so different coyote howls and barks. gonna go check out some speakers now the weekend and hopefully going to give it a try next weekend. i was planning on getting out this weekend but renos on the house took priority, so hoping for next weekend.

Patience...Big time..learn from your mistakes

Most important, keep it light or you won't be walking far, especially once the snow comes. Try and work out your gear so it all fits in a small backpack. Others here have made some good suggestions. A bipod would be a good investment. I would also add a good seat because without it you won't be comfortable and then you will be constantly moving around. Also try and find a good pair of snowshoes if you plan on doing any going in the snow. Not the newfangled aluminum ones with plastic decking though. They are VERY niosy. Not good for walking in to a coyote stand. Lastly, get snow camo! The best coyote hunting is mid to late winter and snow camo really makes a diference.

Make a pair of shooting sticks. I just ripped up some 1" strips about 32" long, bolted together about 3" from the end. Some nails in the end to stick in the ground, some brown stain, and you are good to go.

Balistics and windage for the weapon you are using is always important. Marksmanship is critical because all the nice gear, location and opportunity in the world is useless if you can't shoot. Get yourself a laser rangefinder and range out the distances to prominent features where you set up. That way, you will know if your point of aim will be your point of impact. Or, you can compensate as required, just check the balistics data that comes with your ammo or look it up online. Wind is not a factor out to 300 yards with the approved rifles for coyote hunting. If your rifle is zero at 100 meters then holding a little higher for 200 or 300 is easy with practice. When you want to tag a target beyond 300 then you definately need to familiarize yourself with your balistics with respect to how windage and elevation adjustments work. My best advice there is to keep it simple and know the limits of your rifle and your shooting skills. If you don't think you can make the shot, then wait for another time. No one wants to have to track an injured animal. It deserves our respect and should be dispacthed humanely.
