I doubt hunters are going to be telling others where they are seeing birds, especially partridge... and for good reasons. I've only had my first partridge hunt this past opening day, and I already understand why it's so important to keep certain areas so secret. Numbers aren't what they used to be, so the few areas that are holding birds, aren't to be blabbed about, if those hunters want to keep their favourite "hot spots".....hot!!

I'd say more partridge were shot in that area before the season opened than will be shot the entire season.

There was an experiment done a number of years ago.  They put 5 people in a room and brought in 4 donuts for them.  They told them that they would be back in a little while and if there were still 4 donuts in the room at that time they would give them 4 more.  If not then they would not get anymore.  The promise was that so long as there were 4 donuts they would get more.  Every single time the people would eat the 4 donuts even though they knew if they waited there would be enough for everyone.

People don't like regulations even when it will benifit them.  They all think it doesn't matter if they break the law, it's only a problem if everyone breaks the law.

Part of the problem was that grouse season opened the week before Ptarmigan/partridge.  That gave everyone the license to carry and gun and bring a dog out on the barrens.

Duck season was open a week beforehand too.

I saw plenty of trucks on the side of the highway with dog kennels in the back during the week that waterfowl season was open but ptarmigan was not. I'm sure they all weren't hunting with retrievers or just running their setters.

Too bad the Newfoundland Labrador wildlife federation is inactive.  I wish we had a collective voice that we could approach the government with.

somtimes it just depends on how much food is in the area for birds to get throught the winter i know of several times birds left alone from one year too the next and the amout nvr changed.........

my openion on the season is that it was all opened to early most of the birds i seen shot so far ducks or partridge bearly have their feathers
