Never actually saw the bear, but did see the scat. I live in Goulds, and not too far from my home, late last fall, came across a large pile of it while bird hunting (grouse). I practically walked in it, before realizing what it was. It was very fresh too, maybe a day old at the most, but never found any other evidence like tracks etc...Nothing all summer, and nothing this fall so far..But I do keep an eye out whenever I'm in that general area to maybe catch a glimpse, if the bear(s) still around

There were never bears out home at all. But the past two years there has been a good few sighting of different bears in different location. So i guess when you see a sow and her two cubs means they are breading out there??

Either breeding or maybe passing through...There is nothing stopping bears from coming onto the Avalon. So, I guess from time to time, in their travels, they make their way east. Whether they stay here once they move in, or try and move back out is another story.

It is funny, if you ask Wildlife Officials about bears on the Avalon, they would say that they see one or two every couple of years but there is no population here. But, can you really trust their judgement? The population of Bears in Newfoundland, When I was a small boy was 11,000 individuals. Guess what the population is today after nearly 20 years 11,000. Really funny that it hasn't changed. I think Wildlife has no idea on the current population of Black Bears!

I think that there is that many here it would make you think twice of going into the woods without a gun.

Yea, saw some very clear tracks  near middle gull pond last year in the fall.

Someone had pics taken of a bear on the shoreline in Trepassey this summer. It looked pretty big.

Also, last winter one of the guys from Trepassey had his cabin broken into by a bear. The evidence was easy to see.

So i guess they are getting around a good bit. So i would guess that after closing some dumps we will be seening alot more here.
