"
An oil slick on Bacalhao Island in Change Islands is causing concern for one Liberal MHA who says the area is frequented by sea birds. Randy Edmunds says not only is he worried about the condition of the nearly 700 birds that have come ashore because of the oil slick, but also the impact it will have on the fishery. He's calling on the provincial government to help.
Environment and Conservation Minister Tom Hedderson says he shares Edmunds' concerns."

also adding to this, it was on the radio this morning that there are three raccoons in long harbour that have came over on cargo ships. Another wrench to throw in the mix.
The raccoons where at Bull Arm, not long Harbour.
Sorry, They must have made a mistake on the radio this AM
The oil has been showen up now for over a month and they are still doing nothing about it. WHAT does it take to get something done??? 1 bird with oil on it is to much......
I dont want to be a negative nelly here BUT. Like most things that occur in our province it will be too late before anything is seriously done about it. We will be in dire straits before anything is done.
The more I research and the more I have learned through my schooling, our province is so backwards and terribly far behind many of our neighbours in Atlantic Canada.
The cuts to the Justice dept & DNR prove that. To hell with everything except oil & hydro. Remember people, Newfoundland was here 500 years before we struck oil!!
