So has everyone seen the new budget and the cuts that have been made??

What are your thoughts regarding the wildlife dept/Dept of NR??

I feel that with these cuts poaching may become bigger problem. I know many groups have spoken out against this, for example some salmon groups and advocates have expressed concern regarding salmon stocks.

It has affected me personally as I'm sure it has affected many of us in this way. Two years of working my butt off had finally paid off when I got an interview for my dream job! Four days before my interview I received an email saying it was postponed as there was and is a hiring freeze now put in place. I suspect this will remain in affect for quite some time.

Agreed!   There are so many good points here. I am having such a hard time deciding what to respond to.
I truly believe the beauty about our wildlife is the biology behind it, along with so much more.

The biology behind our wildlife is now  " out the window " and has been so for quite some time . It is all " POLITICAL " now .  The hunting/outdoor community  ALONE has the power to stop this but , as is typical in NL ,  they will not respond .

          Albert.

I am curious about what exactly the Newfoundland Federation of Anglers and Hunters has done.  It feels futile to respond as an individual but as an organization we can do more.  But I am not aware of what the above mentioned organization has done.  Maybe someone can shed some light on that.

Kevin, the NFHA can only do so much at their current size. Until people get off their butts and join the Federation en mass government won't hear any more than a whisper. Hopefully the numbers climb fast enough to make a difference before its to late.

What are the present number of members?
Surely the cost of $5.00 for a yearly membership, is not keeping outdoors people away from it...

When is the next Annual General Meeting of the NFHA?

" NERO FIDDLED WHILE ROME BURNED "

    Albert .

Look Albert,  I'm just asking.  With any Not for Profit organization they are required to have at least one AGM per year in order to be legitimate.  I would like to come to a meeting.  It is often at meetings where ideas are collected and discussion about how to act on the ideas are decided upon.

Kevin , if you want these questions  answered again check out this post.

Hence the reason for my comment.

   Albert.

Albert, don't forget Rome wasn't built in a day. Until I joined this site I had no idea about the NFHA. I am sure there are lots of people that would join if they knew about it. Reading between the lines of your comments, its seems obvious that not alot of the members on this site  are interested in joining. Maybe its time to start thinking outside the box, or outside the site, on the quest for much needed membership numbers. I firmly believe that moose will always be a part of Newfoundland, the geography of this great province will never let hunters get to all the moose. Worst case scenario would be a drastic decline in reachable areas. And when government decides to return management of the herd to the proper authorities, the population will return.
