I know that many of us avid hunters have known about these extraordinary water dogs. I recently adopted one from their breeder in Patrick's Cove. I was hoping to see some pictures of these dogs, both at home, and doing what they do best, retrieve in the water. If anyone has pictures or stories about these legendary water dogs.. Please send them along!

Well let me say congrats on your dog. My dad had one a few years back and it was a great dog. But you know what made that dog so great??  Lots and Lots of training. If you don't put the time into your dog it's just going to be a dog. But hard work and lots of training will make your dog the best you can ever have. I have seen beagles retrieve ducks salt and freshwater. So it goes to say it's all about the training.

But they are good dogs.

Hope this helps

Hi Kenneth,

I totally agree about time being the key factor in training a dog;Time in and out of the field. I have had Black, Yellow, and Chocolate labs in my family. Each of which could retrieve birds superbly. They could retrieve cripples days later, and needed at most a hand single to retrieve downed birds. Before we had blinds, they crept up with me for many pot hole shots.

But time was the key ingredient in these dogs. All three are retired now due to their hips fading (they stay home when we go now).

My rational for the first post was to bring attention to the Cape Shore Water Dog, as many hunters and outdoors people alike have not even heard of these dogs. Hopefully more people can post their tales of these dogs, simply to bring awareness.

Thanks for the reply.

(they sound like some pretty awesome beagles ... I too have seen one of mine bring in a duck)

Hi we are thinking about getting a pup off that breeder in phillips cove how big is your dog? Trying to find out how big the pup might be if they are the size of labs or smaller
Hello, I'm new to this page but I have been doing a bit of looking at these cape shore water dogs and me and my girlfriend are interested in getting one. I came across your post saying that you have recently gotten one from a breeder in Patrick's cove but I cannot find any information on this breeder so I was wondering if you might have any contact information for the breeder. Email, phone number, address, any information you have would be great.
Thanks!

Hello there!

There is a breeder in Branch that sells the cape shore water dogs....I got one and he's 4 months old and 45lbs already and not a bit of fat on him lol. very solid muscular dogs, bit broader and taller than a regular lab but the power hes got already...wow! sweet temperment as well. I got the breeder info from a kijji article online. hopes it helps. I can post pics of my puppy if you want as well.

cheers

Derek

I've heard good things about the breed.
